Thermal Oxidizer

Thermal oxidizers (TO) can destroy volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) through combustion at 1500°F (815°C) to 2200°F (1204°C). They can offer versatility because they may be indiscriminate in what they can destroy, as long as fuel consumption and CO2/ NOx emissions are not a concern. A variant of the thermal oxidizer is regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO), which captures and reuses the heat released during waste gas oxidation to enhance energy efficiency.

A catalytic oxidizer (CO) incorporates a catalyst to facilitate oxidation at lower temperatures, reducing energy consumption. However, it requires stricter operating conditions to prevent catalyst poisoning or deactivation, necessitating extra caution during operation.

Our service extends beyond the transactional sale of a thermal oxidizer to ensure its safe operation long-term. We are committed to providing our clients with complete peace of mind in their daily operation.

By requiring an ignition source, oxidizers pose fire and explosion risks if VOC flow rate is high or unstable or if excess fuel or oxygen is present. In worst cases, flashback can occur to cause extensive equipment damage and plant downtime. Thus, oxidizers require very careful monitoring, regular maintenance, and proper design of flame arrestor placement to help mitigate these risks.
For the right applications, Ultratech can incorporate TO, RTO, and CO into our system designs to achieve the optimal outcomes for our clients.
We understand the strengths and risks of these combustion devices through decades of accumulated experience. Our service extends beyond the transactional sale of a thermal oxidizer to ensure its safe operation long-term. We are committed to providing our clients with complete peace of mind in their daily operation.
In past projects, we have applied TO, RTO, and CO to treat numerous VOC emissions, including freon and other corrosive chemical compounds containing fluorine (F) or chlorine (Cl).
